    The Science and Commerce of Whisky One of the best books on Whisky I've read so far. What other Whisky-related book can you guys suggest? Sláinte! #whisky #science #commerce #ianbuxton #paulhughes #book #whiskyreading #goodreads #singlemalt #scotch #potd #wotd #botd #cheers #slainte #prost #kanpai #leipzig #instadram #scotchporn #whiskygram #whiskeygram
Thank God it's Friday! What's in your glasses tonight?
(Werbung/Ad) @remarkable_malts in da house at Trebsen Whisky Fair a few weeks ago. Nico of @feinbrandtaucha brought the full range as well as some limited editions with him to Schloss Trebsen. My personal favourite The Gauldrons 🕷️🕸️ did not make it into the picture but was ready to be enjoyed as well! Which one is your favourite Remarkable Regional Malt?
*Werbung/Ad* Face-off between @theglenallachie_ 10 CS Batch 1 and Batch 2! Have you guys compared them before? What are your thoughts? Here are mine: Batch 1 Nose A sweet mix of honey, clear vanilla and butter biscuits is the first thing I notice. Add to that limes, herbs, freshly toasted bread and a sweet white wine. With a bit of time and two or three drops of water, the malt opens and looks fuller and sweeter, producing roasted almonds and an unripe peach. The high alcohol content is very well integrated and almost unnoticeable in the nose. Taste On the tongue, the Batch 1 pushes forward with its 57.1% Vol., But is also very sweet and dominated by the vanilla. An intense but not burning tingle on the tongue sets in. In addition, the malt is very oily and brings with it a lot of wood influence. There are also pears and dark chocolate. With water then some roasted aromas that I perceive. Again, the malt benefits from the water and becomes sweeter and fuller. Finish Medium length and nicely warming with wood, baking cocoa and honey. Batch 2 Nose Oh, that's interesting. The nose is very different from Batch 1 and brings a note that I can not define right away. Something musty, like wet wood or even a wet rope. Again there is a sweet hint of vanilla and honey with herbs. I also find red apple, toffee, sugared grapefruit, banana. For a while I think of a piece of hand soap. With water, the Batch 2 opens and becomes chocolatier and darker overall. Taste Sweet, oily, malty. There are chocolate covered raisins, honey, a piece of apple and almond cake, rosemary, lots of wood, a little mint and slightly bitter pear peel. Finish Medium with honey, ginger and clear wood. Conclusion: It is very interesting to identify such differences in two batches of the same Whisky. But it is actually no wonder since the casks selection is slightly different for each Batch. In my opinion Batch two has a little more character and therefore is more appealing to me. I'd like to thank @kirsch_whisky for the complimentary Sample of GlenAllachie 10 CS Batch 2 as well as my friend Oliver for Batch 1. Sláinte!
*Werbung/Ad* Was Lucky to taste the recently released Red Spot 15 by @greenspotirishwhiskey It might be a a new release but it was crafted after an old recipe. Enjoyed that one very much at the Trebsen Whisky Fair! What are your experiences with Spot Whiskey, my dear #instadrammers ?
Also this week, I had a great night at Gourmétage Leipzig with @ardbeg Brand Ambassador @herr.lutz 🥃 It was a super entertaining tasting with great drams beginning with Ardbeg Ten to Uigeadail over to Ardbeg Day Releases such as Ardbeg Grooves and Dark Cove 😍😍😍 All accompanied by some great food from Gourmétage, made that night close to perfect! I'd like to thank my buddy @stefangourmetageleipzig for the kind invitation! *Werbung aufgrund von Markennennung/Markierung* #ardbeg #islay #singlemalt #scotch #whisky #gourmétage #tasting #nosing #leipzig #whiskytasting #scotchporn #whiskyporn #instawhisky #instadram #instascotch #dram #whiskylover #whiskey #wine #bourbon #spirits #cheers #slainte #kanpai #prost
My pal @wiljalba released his album Lost Valley last year. At the end of 2018 he also released an ancompanying Whisky 😍 No wonder since he is part of @whiskyvinyl 📀 What a great way to combine two passions of Whisky and music! Right before Christmas he sent me a 'lil present containing Lost Valley and a sample of the Whisky which is an six-year-old Bunnahabhain Moine matured in an exBourbon cask. It was bottled without chill-filtration and natural Color. *Werbung aufgrund von Markennennung*Gratis Sample, selbst genossen* Check out my tasting notes below: Nose The Bunna does not hide its origin and begins with intense peat smoke in the nose. Add to that ashes, citrus notes, intense maltiness, pastries, vanilla and a maritime freshness. The barrel still leaves a lot of room for the distillery character. The alcohol is surprisingly well integrated and does not feel right after just over 60% Vol. It is a bit mineral and with a little time in the glass comes a hint of pineapple. Taste Also on the tongue, the Bunna is immediately present and pushes ahead with full force. There is intense peat smoke as well as intense sweetness and ginger. I discover some shortbread, honey and vanilla. Plus there are those mineral and fresh notes that I like very much with young Islay Malts. On the tongue, the malt is really viscous and can easily handle a few drops of water. With water he becomes a little tamer and more pleasing. Finish Medium with honey, intense peat smoke and ginger. An untamed Islay Malt for those nights with Friends and good music! This malt is not too complex and still quite but it is certainly one to very much enjoy. A big thanks to @wiljalba again for the Album full of great music and that lil' bottle full of good Whisky 🥃🙂 Sláinte Mr Barleycorn

Happy New Year everyone. First Review of 2k19 is one of Diageo's Classic Malts - Oban 14 yo. *Werbung aufgrund von Markennennung und Verlinkung (Flasche selbst gekauft und genossen)* Nose Light dried fruits like apricots, a hint of citrus and light grapes. The second smell introduces spicy and ripe notes. There are aromas of honey, wood, hot caramel and minimal smoke. Everything together is accompanied by a pleasant sea breeze. The malt is very round and settled on my nose. The alcohol is almost imperceptible. I would have guessed only from the smell of an 18+ Malt. I love it! Taste Rather thin. Honey, wood, light fruit, lemon zest, some pepper and a hint of smoke. Overall, rather dry. Finish Short to medium with grapefruit peel, oak, honey and pepper. On the nose this is an awesome dram. Complex and well balanced it is. But on the pallate it cannot keep Up with that impression. Still a nice malt with just a hint of smoke. Sláinte Mr Barleycorn
2018 has been a wonderful Whisky year for me! I met a lot of interesting people, enjoyed quite a few young and old malts and filled my very own cask of Whisky with my friends from Leipzig. I visited some fairs earlier this year, I was part of @whiskyjason 's live stream in February and released a Podcast in November of 2018. Mr Barleycorn has been constantly growing and received recognition from all over the world, which makes me proud and thankful! I hope this amazing journey will continue in 2019. I'd like to say thank you to all of you people who are just as crazy for the water of life as I am! I also send a huge shout out to all my fellow Whisky Bloggers! Keep doing such great jobs. I hope, I will meet some of you guys in 2019 at some place. For now, I start my New Years Eve Celebrations and hope you guys do the same. See you in 2019💫🍾🥃🥂🌃 Sláinte Tim
Merry Christmas to all of you #instadrammers ! I that you are going to have a wonderful time with your loved ones, great food and one or the other fine dram! I left Santa a wee dram of that amazing Secret Speyside 16 and hope he will enjoy it as much as I did 🎅🥃💫
Excited to try this one - #tobermory 12yo by Signatory Vintage for German Local Dealer Selection. Comes straight from a first fill sherry butt with a hefty 65.5% Abv. Tasting notes will follow next week, so stay tuned! Enjoy your weekend everyone!
*Unbezahlte Werbung/Ad* Last week I have received this bottle from the kind people at @fesslermill1396 . Today I had to give it a try! The #mettermalt is made of Barley and Rye and was matured for 3.5 years in exBourbon and exScotch casks. What is very interesting is that at Fesslermill every step is done on their own. That means full control from barley to bottle! In addition, only CO2 neutral technologies such as solar and water power are used to produce the Whisky. Sounds fantastic. Nose: Rather shy on the nose. Some vanilla and light fruit such as ripe pears and oranges. The casks influence is clearly there as well. Palate: Quite strong for only 40% Abv. which has not to be negative. Other than that the nose is represented quite well. Again I find vanilla, ginger and oranges with a hint of herbs and spices. Finish: Medium, ginger, honey. If I would have tasted this blind, I would not have located this Whisky in Germany but rather in Ireland. It is one of the better German ones I have tasted so far. It would be interesting to see what time does to this Mettermalt since 3.5 years is still very young. Seems like Fesslermill is on a good path. It would also be interesting what a Single MetterMalt from Fesslermill would taste like. A big thank you to the kind people at Fesslermill for the complimentary bottle of MetterMalt. Sláinte Mr Barleycorn
Today was a big day for my fellow whisky enthusiasts and me! We filled our cask with fresh Island New Make. You all should have been there! The new make smelled fantastic with lots of sweet fruit like peaches, pears, apples, water melon and a very nice malty touch. It was shipped a few weeks ago from Scotland to Germany in bulk. The cask previously held Jim Beam. We found a cooper who resized it for us to 29 litres and then, we filled it with Port wine for another six months. Our goal is to let it mature for at least three years from now on. @silberohr25 do you think this is going to work since the cask is still quite small?
