*Werbung/Ad* New review: Ballechin 2007 12yo Refill Sherry Cask bottled by @whic.de for their all new bottling series "The War of the Peat" This badboy was bottled at an ABV of 59.3%, no coloring has been added and there was no chill-filtration as well. Nose: Significant peat smoke flows out of the glass. This is accompanied by a pleasant sweetness in the nose. The sherry keg hides slightly behind the smoke, but becomes more and more clear over time and brings dark dried fruit with it. There are mainly a few raisins, but also smoked bacon. Undiluted, the alcohol is quite present, which is why I add a few drops of water. The nose benefits enormously from the water, and now lets your mouth water. There are more fruits now in the direction of ripe blackberries and red gooseberries. In addition, an even more intense sweetness that reminds of cotton candy. The smoke continues to fade into the background. Taste: On the tongue, the almost 60% Vol. attack directly. Very intense peat smoke is in the foreground. Nevertheless, the barrel also gets its space. The sweetness takes a back seat and makes room for more bitter notes of dark chocolate and a few hazelnuts. Without water, the malt is a bit too much for me. With water, the fruitiness is a little more on the palate. I find raisins and the already mentioned red gooseberry. Overall, rather harsh, which I really like. Finish: Medium. Dark chocolate, ginger, grapefruit peel, some oak and long-lasting peat smoke. Conclusion: Overall, this Ballechin is a very well made malt, which was not killed by the barrel. Without water, the alcohol works a bit too hard for me. However, if you play with water and dilute the malt, the result is great. Complex, balanced and simply delicious. I am curious what to expect, because that was only the first of 13 whiskys from the "The War of the Peat" series.
    Ad/Werbung Check out my latest review of Ardbeg Supernova (Posted 05/10/2019) Have you tried it yet, my dear #instadrammers ? #ultimate #islay #singlemalt #scotch #whisky #ardbeg #supernova #scotchporn #whiskyporn #scotchgram #whiskygram #instadram #dram #whiskey #mrbarleycorn
Ad/Werbung Review of Ardbeg Supernova 2019 Nose: Strong sweetish smoke is hitting my nose. Unique Ardbeg ash paired with sweet caramel notes, oranges, licorice, delicate vanilla, cake dough, mint and some pine resin. Light white wine notes come through as soon as the smoke settles. I also think of wet slate. The alcohol is great involved. Over time, the sweetness in the nose becomes more intense and the smoke almost disappears. Now I also discover anise. Taste: Wow. Violent start. The alcohol, which was barely noticeable in the nose, is right there on the tongue. It seems to me that I bit into a piece of charred wood. That may sound daunting, but that's exactly what I was hoping for. The second sip is then almost tame, but still powerful. Again there are sweet caramel and vanilla notes, pine needles, some citrus and salted butter. Finish: Medium, smoky, tingling, sweet with a touch of spicy oak and some orange peel. Conclusion: As I said, I have expected from the most heavily peated Ardbeg a decent punch and he definitely brings that with him on the tongue. Surely this bottling is still very young. The mineral slate notes and the overall impetuous appearance are clear evidence of this. The youth is the Malt very well and I like young Islay whisky now very much. For collectors sure a bottling, which definitely has to be in the closet. For me very tasty, but rather uninteresting by the rather high price of just under 160 € with shipping. #ultimate #islay #singlemalt #scotch #whisky #ardbeg #supernova #scotchporn #whiskyporn #scotchgram #whiskygram #instadram #dram #whiskey #mrbarleycorn
Werbung/Ad The German online reseller @whic.de teamed up with Signatory Vintage and has just introduced its new all peated bottling line called "The War of the Peat". I am quite impressed by the artwork and hope that the total of 13 Whiskys will keep up with that promising appearance. My upcomming review is going the be bottling number one of thirteen - a 12yo Ballechin from @edradourwhiskyofficial 😍 Stay tuned! #jointheinvasion #warofpeat #peated #singlemalt #scotch #whisky #whiskyporn #scotchporn #instadram #dram #cheers #kanpai #slainte #prost #whiskey #drinks #bar #connoisseur #potd

Werbung/Add Glengoyne 24 bottled by @bruehler_whiskyhaus Part of a Sherry Cask bottled at 48.5% Abv. Nose: Great first nose with vanilla crisp, grape juice, milk chocolate, marzipan, cane sugar, juice orange, overripe apple, peach, mint, cinnamon. Despite the rather wintry aromas, the malt is not dark but pleasantly fresh. Overall, the Glengoyne does not swing the hardcore Sherrykeule but relies on finesse, which I like very much. Was probably a refill barrel. Taste: Beautifully sweet and incredibly full on the tongue and almost liqueur-like. The alcohol is very well integrated and does not look like 48.5% Vol. The nose is beautifully reflected. The peach comes to the fore, this time in the form of sweet peach sirloin. The tannins round off the whole and give on the tongue a slightly bitter note that complements the sweetness. Sweet pastries, caramel and a light, perfumed acidity. Seeeehr tasty. Finish: Medium. Marzipan, grapefruit, chocolate with some mint. Conclusion: The name in this case is not quite Program. Sure, Glengoyne will be in, but with Late Nights Summer the malt has not much to do. Nevertheless, I find this malt very successful, but especially for the cooler months. Autumn is just around the corner and I am pleased to have opened the bottle right now. Unfortunately, the bottling has a disadvantage: with 700ml the bottle is clearly too small.
New Review *Ad/Werbung* I have had my problems with Loch Lomond. But I heard about a few Cadenhead bottlings that were supposed to be quite good...so I went for this 21yo bourbon cask from 1996. 51.5% ABV, natural color and no chill-filtration. Nose: Oldschool nose with quite some power. Shortbread, vanilla, noticeable peat smoke, really nice with cereal, lemon zest, a herbal note that could have come from Italy rather than from Scotland. I do not know if it is imagination, but also the smell of pine needles, which were rubbed in the hand, is quite clear. My mouth is watering only from nosing it. Really nice nose! Taste: On the tongue as well, shows the Loch Lomond, which is probably an Inchmurrin, properly its strength. In addition, a fat mouthfeel, like sunflower oil. A great game of spicy oak, brioche and hints of citrus fruits towards lemon and grapefruit. In addition, a pleasant spicyness on the tongue, again herbs and some black tea. A malt with character, but not for those who avoid tart malts. Finish: medium to long. Grapefruit peel, bitter chocolate, walnuts. Conclusion: That was finally one of those fabled good barrels of Loch Lomond. I am very stunned. Captain Haddock would have found his true joy in this malt. I am tempted to order another bottle directly.
